The obverse design showcases Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ historic 1907 depiction of Lady Liberty. Originally created for the $20 Double Eagle, the image was groundbreaking for its time. Liberty is shown striding forward, torch raised in her right hand and olive branch held in her left, with the U.S. Capitol, a ring of stars, and radiant sunbeams in the background.
On the reverse, the U.S. Mint uses a modern image of the bald eagle. Designed in 2020 by Jennie Norris and first issued in 2021, the artwork offers a left-profile close-up of the eagle’s head with fine detail that reflects the bird’s natural appearance.
