Western Australia’s gold production began modestly in the late 1880s but exploded during the 1890s following the major discoveries at Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. In the peak years of the early gold rush era, from the mid-1890s through the early 1900s, the goldfields around Perth and throughout Western Australia produced hundreds of thousands of ounces annually. The famous Golden Mile in Kalgoorlie proved to be one of the world’s richest square miles of gold-bearing ore, with production initially coming from alluvial deposits that individual miners could work, followed by increasingly sophisticated deep-shaft mining operations as surface deposits were exhausted.

These bars are produced by melting precise amounts of gold and pouring the molten metal into moulds with defined shapes.
