2026 1/4 oz British Gold Britannia Coin (BU)
The Royal Mint launched the Britannia bullion series in 1987, making it one of its two regular annual coin programs, along with the historic Gold Sovereign. The first release in the Britannia collection was the Gold Britannia, available in a range of weights from the outset. Today, 2026 1/4 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are available from JM Bullion.

The 19th century brought significant artistic sophistication to Britannia’s portrayal, with detailed engravings showing more realistic anatomy and elaborate classical styling. Victorian-era coins featured Britannia with more defined musculature and flowing hair, often wearing a Corinthian helmet and draped in elegant robes that emphasized both dignity and strength. The sea beneath her became more detailed with waves and maritime elements, while her shield and trident were rendered with greater precision, reflecting the era’s technical advances in coin production and Britain’s confidence as a global maritime empire.
All 2026 1/4 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The 1/4 oz gold coins are individually packaged in plastic flips, with multiples of 25 coins in acrylic tubes. The enhanced security elements include motion texture wave lines, tincture lines, a latent security mark, and micro-text engraving.
The obverse of the 2026 British Gold Britannia displays the image of King Charles III. This marks the debut of the King’s portrait on British coinage, introduced in 2022 and designed by Martin Jennings. The portrait shows the King in left-profile relief, without a crown.
