2015 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin (BU)
The Royal Canadian Mint released its first 1/10 oz Canadian Maple Leaf Coin in 1982, now 33 years later it is presenting its most recent installment, the 2015 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin. The 2015 edition of the 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf brings with it a key security update. For the first time, this 1/10 oz gold coin features light-diffracting radial lines, which are engineered to tolerances measured in microns. This feature was used in 2014 for the first time on the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf.

With a legal tender face value of $5 CAD, the 1/10 oz Maple Leaf Coin is the second smallest denomination in the series. Few coins possess a design that embodies the pride and spirit of Canada as well as the maple leaf. Proudly displayed on the front of the coin is the same iconic piece of foliage that appears on the nation’s flag. While originally an allusion to the abundance of maple trees that the first settlers encountered, the maple leaf has come to symbolize the nation’s core values of tolerance and peace. Each leaf image has been skillfully engraved in exquisite detail from its distinct five-pointed shape to its textured surface. Serving as a backdrop to the leaf are a series of radial lines, which not only contribute to the overall design, but also hinder any potential counterfeit attempts. Lastly, as a final touch, the coin’s purity, weight and country of origin have been inscribed in a circular formation along the outer edge of the coin.
Gracing the reverse side of the coin is the portrait of HRM Elizabeth II. This monarch’s noble profile is meant to reflect Canada’s continued allegiance towards its former ruling nation as well as the monarchy. She is elegantly portrayed in her signature coiffure with a string of pearls hanging from her neck. Printed above the effigy is her name, while the coin’s denomination and mintage year appear beneath. As with the front of the coin, the same radial lines can be seen repeating themselves in the background behind the Queen.
