The obverse of the 2026 1 oz Platinum Kangaroo Coin displays a portrait of King Charles III in left-profile relief, without a crown. Created by Dan Thorne, this is the first official effigy of His Majesty to appear on Australian coinage.
The reverse side of the 2026 Australian Platinum Kangaroo features a kangaroo bounding through the field in left-profile relief with a sunburst edge design. The design pays tribute to the kangaroo’s natural agility and energy-efficient form of movement, developed through centuries of evolution in the Australian landscape.
Economically, kangaroos contribute significantly through tourism and the commercial harvesting industry. Millions of international visitors come to Australia hoping to see kangaroos in the wild, making them invaluable to the tourism sector.
